For Weight Loss

When considering how to diet, remember your nutrition. In 2004, Scientists from Oregon State University, MIT and the University of Ottawa, claimed that the gene SIRT1 not only cuts the growth of fat cells, but also increases the metabolism or use of fat in existing fat cells. This activity is helped by resveratrol, a polyphenol and antioxidant found at high levels in grape skins. This research may help explain why moderate consumption of red wine appears to reduce deaths from heart disease. The study used mice in its research, and the next step is to see if the same results are observed in a higher vertebrate animal, including humans. According to Mark Leid, pharmacology professor at the Oregon State University, “When cells were exposed to Resveratrol, our studies showed a pretty dramatic reduction in the conversion to fat cells and a lesser but still significant increase in the mobilization of existing fat, or the rate at which the cells metabolized stored fat2.” Dr. Leid added, “This clearly could be one of the explanations for the health benefits that some researchers believe can be linked to moderate red wine consumption.” This study may show that the antioxidant benefits from moderate red wine consumption could help you battle the bulge. You may also want to increase your consumption of red grapes for the same benefits. And if you don’t get enough nutrition supplement your diet with one or several of the many herbal supplements available.
